@bigironcruiser – The image ID does not change if you edit the image, the ID is assigned when the image is uploaded and maintained at all times for the image.

As clarification, there are a few images that are currently referenced with Singlepic and/or Featured Images. I want to re-edit those images with Photoshop, and then update them without losing their current image ID. I don’t see an option that allows me to do that. Are you saying the correlation/matching happens automatically based on the name of the image?
@bigironcruiser – If you want to rework an image that is already displayed on your site and you do not want to change the image ID reference you are already using then it will likely be more work than uploading a new image and changing the existing references.
For example, new image: upload; change ID reference(s); (and, exclude the original) done.
For an existing image: ensure the exact same filename is used; upload and overwrite the existing image; generate a new thumbnail for the image; clear the image cache. Also to keep in mind, if you are using this image in other locations you will need to at a minimum re-save any instances where the IGW was used to insert the image.
For a singlepic shortcode you should be fine; for a feature image you will likely still need to go back and re-select the image.

The issue with replacing an existing image with a new one is determining where the existing image is referenced. A “where used” feature would be the ticket.
