It's a wonderful thing to see that I can click a button and have my WordPress blog updated. Too bad FTP is not permitted on my ISP's network and machines. FTP is one of the most exploited vulnerabilities and so a lot of hosting companies shun it in favor of ssh and scp. I only wish that WordPress would allow that as an option because SFTP and FTP simply are not and never will be available. I suppose I could go to WordPress.com, but then I would lose a lot of the utility and customization that make WordPress so wonderful. So I kind of reject that out of hand.
Considering that it seems like an update comes almost monthly, I spend a lot of time staring at the information that a new WordPress version is available. Considering the difficulty and risk in manual updates, I will continue to see that invitation a lot.
If the secure shell suite was employed, it would make life a LOT easier (and safer). The last time I tried manual updating, I lost 2 years worth of posts and comments and basically had to start over from scratch. This is about my only complaint against WordPress, but for me, its a biggie.
