  • From line 273 of the current theme CSS stylesheet we see:

    h1 {
        background-color: #3057a5;
        color: #fff;
        font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;
        font-size: 20px;
        font-weight: 500;
        line-height: 1.375;
        letter-spacing: 0.1em;
        margin: 12px 0 12 10px;
        padding: 10px 5px 0 10px;
        text-decoration: none;
        text-align: center;
    }

    Add this CSS at bottom of the Child Theme CSS:

    .home h1#title {
        background-color: transparent;
    }

    Then review what added that…

    ok, I tried changing the color, that is a part of the design for the headers on the other pages, to have white type inside a blue box. But, why did this mess up ONLY on the home page? The header should be the same on all pages. So either I’d have the box of color over all the logos in the headers of all the pages, or on none. and how do I get rid of this patch of color on the home page?

    Another question – I used to use Firefox’s Firebug to debug websites, when the mouse was over an object, it would highlight the css and html used. I tried both the new Mozilla developer and Chrome’s product, neither have that feature, or at least I did not see that. What do you use and recommend to debug these days?

    Thanks!

    I am quite unclear on the above reply. That said, I was quite able to fix the issue with CSS.

    Please take the time needed to review how that is well done at:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/CSS

    The Codex leads us all to a better understanding of how it all works.

    I changed the background color of the H1 tag to see if that was indeed relevant, and it was. However, I need that blue background on other pages on that site.

    Your comment did lead me to the customize page on the dashboard. When I eliminated the site title and tagline, the blue box over the logo transformed into a thin blue line above the header area, which I can live with for now. But again, why would this only occur on the home page?

    But again, why would this only occur on the home page?

    I am as curious as you. I cannot ascertain the past. Perhaps, an update to a theme or plugin added the CSS class.

    My personal thoughts are related to securing site access with unique passwords only you know. The flip-side of that likely would have caused much more issues…
