  • Hi there,

    I just updated to WordPress.org version 3.8 yesterday and every time I visit my blog (www.iceybooks.com), I get an error message:

    Sorry!
    You do not have permission to access this location.

    Does anyone know how I can resolve it? I need to fix it as soon as possible 🙁

    Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

    I did the first two steps, but how would I go about the second? Will it delete all my content?

    No. Your plugin settings should all be saved in your database and should be retained for future use.

    I’m sorry, I meant the third. But I got it working again! It’s all good now. Thank you for all your help.

    I deleted all the files as you mentioned in step three and re-uploaded the files. I didn’t upgrade via the fourth step, however. Somehow, the upgraded 3.8 version is still there…

    I’m a beginning use of WP. I tried to log into my WP website (hosted by Yahoo!) at http://mnt.jareking.com, and I got this message “Sorry!
    You do not have permission to access this location.”

    I read the post and response from 11 months ago, and I want to clarify the first step:

    1. Rename the “themes” sub-folder to “themes-old”?

    I edited my web pages “on the fly”. I didn’t upload content for webpages. Have I lost my content or am I merely dealing with some glitch in communication between the server (Yahoo!) and WordPress?
