Updated to new WP and getting Malware warnings from Google

  • regarding http://www.rappley.com

This morning, I logged in to wp-admin, installed the new version, and within 15 minutes, my sit was tagged by Google as having malware. I am assuming that this is a coincidence.

I just set it up in March with some test posts and was planning on working on it now I am on vacation. Is it easier to wipe out the whole directory or dig around till I find the problem?

Can anyone give me a hint about what exactly I am looking for?

Also, what can I do to avoid this in the future?

  • Looks like your site has been compromised by hackers. Its not a wordpress issue.

Check all your files for unfamilier ones – compare with the originals.
Look for folders and files that don’t bellong as well as those that look similer to what you should have but just dont look right. This will involve you going through your entire site. Don’t forget to check your database via the MyPhpAdmin interface.

You are better off taking your site offline till the problem has been resolved – just make an index.html to the effect “Site under maintenace” and upload it to your server. Don’t forget to rename your index.php so that there is no conflict with the html file.

Check your logs to see what is going on.

    Thanks, ZGani, that’s a start.

Since I am new to this, I have no idea about what should be familiar or unfamiliar. Is there a master list of the directory tree of the folders/files that I should be seeing available someplace?

Also, what steps can I take to keep this from happening in the future?
