• Hi there. I just updated to 6.2 and after running a scan, found that less files/data were being scanned. I just want to understand if this is correct. I didn’t change any settings after updating.

These are the scan results before updating to 6.2:
    [Sep 29 10:17:00] Scan Complete. Scanned 18297 files, 8 plugins, 2 themes, 2067 pages, 90676 comments and 993884 records in 380 seconds.
[Sep 29 10:17:01] Wordfence used 88.28MB of memory for scan. Server peak memory usage was: 124.91MB

These are the scan results after updating to 6.2:
    [Sep 29 18:34:28] Scan Complete. Scanned 4061 files, 8 plugins, 2 themes, 2067 pages, 90684 comments and 976745 records in 1 minute 26 seconds.
[Sep 29 18:34:29] Wordfence used 89.01MB of memory for scan. Server peak memory usage was: 125.72MB

As you can see, after updating fewer files are being scanned in about the same amount of time. Is WF scanning correctly? Thanks.

  • Hi blkcatgal,
There is nothing to worry about here, Wordfence is scanning your website correctly and this decrease in number of scanned files is expected starting from version 6.2 in favor of the massive improvement in the scan performance, basically, we changed the way we are hashing some files on your website, this process now is getting smarter and performance-wise on most servers, I suggest reading more about “How we made these huge performance gains” in our blog post.

Let me know if you have any further question,
    Thanks.

Thanks, wfalaa. I was just surprised because it still was taking the same amount of time, although scanning in under 2 minutes is great.

I’m still unable to include comments in the WF scan though. The scan runs out of memory and is unable to complete. I’ve posted previously here about this issue and tried the various things suggested with no success. So I’ve just excluded comments from the scan. Would using the low resource scanning option help with this now? Thanks.

The “low resource scanning” decreases the possibility of having a high resource usage on some hosting plans, I’m not sure if it can help regarding this memory issue due to this large number of comments on your website (hopefully it will), so what about trying it out and let us know how it goes? I would really appreciate your feedback.

    Thanks.

    Hey wfalla,
I tried the low resource scanning option and unfortunately it didn’t complete the scan when I included the comments. 🙁 Hopefully, one day WF will come up with something so that I’ll be able to complete the scan with comments.

    Thanks.
