Support » Fixing WordPress » Updated to 3.8.1, wrecked two sites

  • I followed the prompt to update on two of my sites, http://www.natora.jp and http://www.shikokutours.com, and they immediately turned into blank, empty pages, with no access to the Dashboard.

Now with http://www.natora.jp, I have access to the Dashboard, but all the Japanese text in the whole site is question marks.

With http://www.shikokutours.com, the site is visible in a broken sort of way, and although the Dashboard appears, only the menu on the left is shown, with an empty righthand panel. Clicking on the menu brings up nothing in the panel.

Any ideas as to what to do?

Perhaps the update did not complete.

Try MANUALLY re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Read the Manual Update directions first!

BTW, if you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong. It’s a great safety net.
