Just updated to plugin version 3.0.0. The update process says that is has been updated and reactivated successfully, but it didn’t reactivate on both sites where I have the plugin installed. No big deal, as I can reactivate manually, but probably something to take a look at.

Thanks again for an awesome testimonials plugin.

Just noticed the donation suggestion. Maybe this serves as a gentle reminder that plugin authors need more than positive reviews to stay afloat and keep coding 🙂

    Barnez, thanks for the report.

    Any debug.log details by chance?

    Were you coming from 2.19.9?

    Hi Michael.
Yes in both cases I was updating from the most recent 2.9.9 version.
There is no debug.log file in the testimonials widget directory. Is this where I would find it?

debug.log is found in wp-content folder if WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG is enabled. No worries.

I see. I set WP_DEBUG to true in wp-config and no errors or warning were shown for testimonials widget.

Please don’t worry about this. I do appreciate your help trying to debug.

I had the same problem in updating the Testimonials Widget on two separate sites. Each time, the plugin deactivated itself after updating. On one site, I had to recreate the Testimonials slider as the original one had disappeared completely. On the second site, the slider was initially invisible but then reappeared once I reactivated the plugin. Unfortunately, it had the default settings so I had to redo my customizations. Again, not a big deal, just a nuisance.

One thing I noticed, however, is that there is no longer an option in the settings to Disable Animation or control the Fade Out / Fade In speed. This is somewhat irritating since I had control over that in previous versions. Is this option now only available in the premium version?

That said, this really is an awesome plugin and the best Testimonials widget plugin I’ve found. It’s sturdy, easy to use, and does a nice job. I really appreciate the developer offering a lite version in addition to the Premium one, and I understand how much work has gone into maintaining this for the long haul. I am grateful 🙂

    Cheers,

    Melissa,

Thank you for the feedback. Please read the upgrade notice, it’s link from the changelog. You might’ve been using the custom slider code which is gone.

Do you know what Testimonial Widget version you were upgrading from?

Aha, I will pay more attention to the changelog before updating next time 😉

Why did you remove the fade_out_speed and fade_in_speed options, and will that functionality be available in a future version? I really miss the subtle nuancing that was possible to achieve with those controls; now they’re just all a generic fade 🙁

I have been keeping the plugins updated regularly, so it was likely the version right before this one. I would have to check the backup files to confirm, though.

    Thanks, Michael!

    Melissa,

Those options are available in bxslider, but I’ve not specifically added settings for them as filters could do so. However, since you’ve asked nicely, I’m tracking this via https://github.com/michael-cannon/testimonials-widget/issues/151 to add the bxslider variant back in.

    Thank you for your patience.

That would be totally awesome 🙂

    Thank you, Michael!

    Melissa,

Per https://github.com/michael-cannon/testimonials-widget/issues/151, more bxSlider controls are now available in Testimonials Widget Premium 2.2.0RC1 as options. The first are speed and adaptiveHeightSpeed. Would there be any others you’d like to have?

I’m not sure of the release date of TWP 2.2.0, but you’re welcome to help beta test.

That is so thoughtful of you to follow up, Michael!

I’m really excited to hear that you’ve implemented those features, and thank you for asking about other requests! I’m assuming the speed options you’ve added allow more control over the fade/transition time, which is great. Some additional types of transitions (in addition to fade, slide horizontal, slide vertical) would be cool. Maybe check out Portfolio Slideshow Pro for inspiration on possible options.

I will check into beta testing as soon as I get a chance.

    Thanks again!

    m. 🙂
