Support » Plugin: Ditty News Ticker » Updated plugin, slider ticker broken?

  • Resolved benbattaglia

I’ve updated the Ditty plugin, and noticed that my slider (left hand side green section) has stopped working.

Looking at console there’s an error for it?
Uncaught TypeError: $(…).ditty_news_ticker is not a function
    at HTMLDocument.<anonymous> ((index):690)
    at i (jquery.js?ver=1.12.4:2)
    at Object.fireWith [as resolveWith] (jquery.js?ver=1.12.4:2)
    at Function.ready (jquery.js?ver=1.12.4:2)
    at HTMLDocument.K (jquery.js?ver=1.12.4:2)

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

You may need to clear your CDN cache, and/or any other caches you have on your site. I’m not seeing anything wrong in the source code. Usually an error like this is due to a javascript error stemming from some other code… But, I’m not seeing any other errors on your site besides a Typekit error, but I don’t think that would cause this.

You may also want to run through this article to see if some other script is affecting the ticker.

Let me know what you find out. Thanks!

I have tried clearing cache and disabling plugins, still nothing..

Did you also try switching to a default theme like twentyseventeen? Sometimes the theme can be the culprit.

After trying that, if you don’t see any different results, I would suggest deactivating and deleting Ditty News Ticker and re-installing it (you won’t lose any data).

I can’t see why that error would be happening on your site. I see the ticker script being loaded (or should be loaded, via the source code) before the ticker is being called, as it should… But, for some reason your site does not seem to be loading it for some reason.

I do see that your jQuery.js script is commented out in your header, which may be the cause for this (the ticker needs to use jQuery, which should always be included on a WP site):

    <!-- <script type='text/javascript' async='async' src='//'></script> -->

Ahh ok, I’ve contacted my hosting support and they said that a plugin was blocking it:

This issue was a conflict with the Async Javascript plugin. I’ve now added the Ditty News Ticker and Ditty RSS Ticker as exclusions via Settings> Async Javascript > Plugin Exclusions and Script Exclusions, respectively.

I’ve also cleared the site cache. The ticker is now viewing correctly.

The client is always in there adding things and updating so not sure why it was added but we’ve filtered it out now.. Just letting you know in case the same thing ever happens again!

    Thanks for the help
