  • Resolved Crozon1

I just updated my theme Glossy Stylo to the latest and greatest – unfortunately I was unaware that any customization I made would disappear.

I use WP-DBmanger for backups, and tried to restore to an earlier point with the plug-in, but it states “There Are No Database Backup Files Available.”

After a lot of research I found I could try to backup through phpMyAdmin using the MySQL through my host. It only had one database available, so I tried to restore from there – there no changes with the theme, but other updates I made with plug-ins where reverted to earlier today.

I next uploaded an earlier dated .sql file (June 29th) from wordpress/wp-content/backup-db, but still the theme did not revert back to the pre-update.

Is there any way of getting my site back through the WP-DBmanger backups?

  • Theme edits are not in the db, they are files that you edit (a few framework type themes write theme options to the db, but most do not)

Ask, your web host if they can restore that folder from just prior to you overwriting the files.

Then, create a child theme (and not lose your edits on theme update)

Thanks, I contacted my host. Hopefully they can do something for me – wish I knew about child themes earlier 🙁

I got my host to do a restore, where they said they “restored the oldest backup of the folder ‘/public_html/” – it didn’t make any changes to the theme folder at all… guess I have to rebuild 🙁

    Rebuilt – almost
