We just updated to 3.8.1 and also to the latest version of Contact Form 7. The whole site went down, and only after renaming Contact Form 7 through our hosting company and disabling the plugin did the site come back up, however of course without the plugin on our contact page. Can anyone help with instructions on how to resolve this? The page in question is http://starrstreetstudios.com/booking/

It is always possible that Contact Form 7 didn't install or update correctly on your site. It's a general problem with WordPress updates due to the unreliability of internet connections.

Delete the renamed plugin folder (it's normally wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7/) and install the plugin again.

Hi there, thanks for your response. I deleted the plugin folder from the hosting servers, and reinstalled it. Its still showing a blank page after inserting the short code there. Is it possible that I am doing something wrong with the shortcode or where I am putting it? The shortcode is [contact-form-7 id="19" title="Contact form 1"]

Your CF7 short code looks fine.

It's always possible that WP 3.8.1 didn't install or update correctly on your site. In fact this is a more likely cause of your previous crashed site than any issue with CF7.

It could be that your problem with CF7 is just a symptom of some wider problems with your WP site.

Now would be a good time look at using the backup you created of your WP site (like all sensible WP users) before updating your site.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't get it to work, and everything else seemed fine, so I switched to Fast Secure Contact Form which is working great so far. My site isn't backed up that I know of- the person who was managing the site for us is no longer with us so I am having to scramble to learn WordPress. I really have no idea what I am doing, I'll look in to how to back up the site, thanks. That's an obvious thing that I've overlooked!
