 * I have [**a site**](http://www.makeuslive.com) with old wordpress version installed
   on it, which I want to update with latest version but scared if it will disturb
   my theme as few month back it happened when I updated one of wordpress plugin.
   Please advice me updation of wordpress is neccessary?

 * You are already running 4.0.1
 * It is highly desirable to keep the version up to date, for instance the last 
   update included important security fixes.
 * Just in case your site has an incompatibility with the update, it is important
   to have backups of your database, also it is important to follow best practice
   and never modify any core WordPress files or themes, if you need to modify and
   theme files you should adopt a child theme.
