hi, i attempted to update wordpress 5.5 but it failed… i am not a techy kind of person. thank you in advance…attached below…

    Downloading update from https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-5.5-no-content.zip…

The authenticity of wordpress-5.5-no-content.zip could not be verified as no signature was found.

    Unpacking the update…

Warning: copy(C:/Inetpub/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/wp-admin/includes/update-core.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\mydomain\httpdocs\wp-admin\includes\class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 281
The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.: wp-admin/includes/update-core.php

    Installation Failed

  • I had something very similar.

On the dashboard I received a message advising update failed and to click to restart or finish the process. But it just locked in maintenance mode.

I saw somewhere that I needed to delete a maintenance mode file to restore access.

I did that and unfortunately cannot connect to the site at all any more.

I receive this message on accessing the site…

    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function register_block_type_from_metadata() in …./wp-includes/blocks/archives.php:119 Stack trace: #0 …./wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(287): register_block_core_archives(”) #1 …/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(311): WP_Hook->apply_filters(NULL, Array) #2 …/wp-includes/plugin.php(478): WP_Hook->do_action(Array) #3 …./wp-settings.php(540): do_action(‘init’) #4 …/wp-config.php(90): require_once(‘…’) #5 ….wp-load.php(37): require_once(‘…’) #6 …./wp-admin/admin.php(34): require_once(‘….p…’) #7 …/wp-admin/index.php(10): require_once(‘…./mp…’) #8 {main} thrown in …../wp-includes/blocks/archives.php on line 119

This is getting to be quite a pain.
Every one of my sites says I have to update but they all get the :
“The authenticity of wordpress-5.5.1-no-content.zip could not be verified as no signature was found.”
As suggested I tried an immediate retry but had this again, just faster to get there.
Something is obviously very much amiss with this update and, if I may be so bold, may I suggest that the ubiquitous “Someone” has a look at what is going wrong.
Either this is an important update and it should work “right out of the tin” or it does not mater that we can’t update to it. Either way is OK but, please, let us know one way or the other.
    Many thanks,
    Mike
