 * Can pods be updated by going to the plugins folder, deleting the previous version
   and unzipping the new version? Are there any caveats at all to doing this?

 * It’s mostly the same thing. Sometimes plugins have update methods attached to
   activation hooks, so deactivate, trash or rename, replace, activate would be 
   the most thorough.
