    Hi,

    I’ve been using this plugin for quite some time on a live site & it works fine

    But I just updated to V5.0.7 – and nothing is displaying in the space the slider occupies.

    I’ve rolled back V5.4.2 and the site now works again – so I’ve created a Staging site which shows the same problem with V5.0.3 <-> V5.0.6

    I’ve tested with both Chrome & Safari browsers on IOS and MacOS – same problem on all combinations

    Any suggestions regarding what I should do next to help diagnose the problem ?

    Mike

    We will together try to narrow down the reason of the issue. In 90% of the cases it is some theme styles or other plugin styles interferring with Gutenslider styles. So to eliminate sources of error, please:

    1. if possible send us an online link that shows the error and wait for an answer from us, if not possible:
    2. disable all other plugin and see if the error persists, if yes:
    3. switch to an official theme (twenty twentyone e.g.) and see if the error persists, if yes:
    4. send us diagnostic data about the system you are on, so we can reproduce the error:
    4.1: Operating System + Version (e.g. Windows 10, OSX 10.15, …)
    4.2: WordPress Version
    4.2: Browser + Browser Version

    I am sure we will find the cause.

    2) Problem persists will all plugins except Gutenslider deactivated

    3) Problem persists with Theme: Twenty Twenty-One

    4)

    4.2) 5.7.1
    4.3) Chrome Version 90.0.4430.212 (Official Build) (x86_64)

    Mike,

    we looked at the site and the strange thing is, that parts of the DOM are missing, not hidden by css rules but missing. To investigate further, please just send a hello message to support@gutenslider.org so we can assist personally.

    A and threee things you could try please if you did not already:
    1. remove / empty caches (e.g. cached minified js / css)
    2. click the update button on the post/page with the slider
    3. create a new slider with the same images.

    Niklas

    This bit of css is the culprit in your case:

    /wp-content/uploads/siteground-optimizer-assets/siteground-optimizer-combined-css-a671c9eee0fbbda41fefca0298760ecd.css

    .wp-block-eedee-block-gutenslider .wp-block-eedee-block-gutenslide .wp-block-eedee-block-gutenslide {
        display: none;
    }

    Gutenslider 5.0.8 is working fine on Chrome, even on an older version like 67.0.3396.87 (Official Build) (64-bit).

    Edited to add: Siteground Optimizer is also making the arrows not clickable when it “optimizes” your site’s javascript.

    Yeah, purging your Siteground Optimizer cache might help:

    strange…..

    I tried turning off siteground optimiser & flushing cache etc. – to no avail

    I then took a close look at the page (Home) that gutenslider is on. All the slides were missing…..

    So I then recreated a new staging copy of the site and duplicated the Home page ready to do some testing.

    I then updated Gutenslider to 5.0.9 and saw that the update had removed all the slides and also left the block inaccessible/uneditable

    But – strangely! – the copy of the Home page was working fine – with Gutenslider block left intact – so I simply copy/pasted the Gutenslider block from the functioning page to the Home page, deleted the crippled block and – Voila! – all working fine…….

    I’ve no idea why the Home page and its copy behaved differently when the Gutenslider plugin was updated – just happy I’ve been able to update the plugin and keep the site working…..

    Thanks for all help & support here.

    Let me know if you’d like me to recreate the problem – I’m happy to allow access admin to a staging copy of the site to facilitate investigation…..

    @mikepfive that staging copy would be nice but only if you have enough spare time. you can send more information to support@gutenslider.org in case.

    otherwise I would blame some cached versions and see if others come up with similar issues. closing this.

    So – I set up the staging site and ‘Niklas’ sorted the problem.

    Here’s what he had to say:

    hey mike,

    we found the issue. at least a workaround but will file it as "will not fix" for the moment. Your page was created with a very old version of Gutenslider. Updating once and then migrating to 5 fixed it. Now it is running the most recent version and it works.
    What we did not test is, if it would also work by just hitting "Update" on the page after Gutenslider 5 is installed but we understood that you did?

    Thanks for the setup. As soon as more people write us with the issue we will consider rewriting the migration script.

    1000 thanks,

    Niklas

    5* support from support@gutenslider.org

    Much appreciated

    Mike
