• To be able to update my theme, I created a child theme successfully using the directions located at:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

    I created two files inside the theme on my ftp:
    “style.css” & a “functions.php” that included “wp_enqueue_style()”
    I activated the child theme and website works great.

    However, when i updated the parent theme, it still reverted items on my home page to the parent page defaults. (ie. the background, main logo, menu structure, & footer info…etc)

    I am confused. I thought creating the child theme would prevent this issue.

    I activated the parent theme to run the update. I am unsure if i am to update the parent theme or the child theme.

    Not sure what i am doing wrong. I am unable to find answer after hours of searching google.

    Thanks for your help.

  • What parent theme were you using?

    a purchased theme from “church themes.com” named “resurrect”

    However, when i updated the parent theme, it still reverted items on my home page to the parent page defaults. (ie. the background, main logo, menu structure, & footer info…etc)

    I activated the parent theme to run the update.

    this would also revert some of the customizations.

    did re-activating the child theme bring the customizations back?

    generally, you only update the parent theme, which you chould be able to do without it being activated.

    for details with purchased themes, please contact the theme’s developer or seller;

    When I re-activated the child theme, is when I discovered that there were changes that I did not expect. I did not know I could update parent them with out activating it.
