• When I go to Options/Writing/Update Services and enter a new ping list and then click Update Options, it goes to the blog itself or gets a page cannot be found error.

The result is the ping list cannot be changed.

I’ve built lots of blogs and have never had this problem before and am having this problem only on a new server I’m using.

Any ideas how to fix this?

  • Don’t know what version of WordPress you are having problems but you might try to visit http://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/options.php and delete the values in ping_sites. Could also do the same thing via phpMyAdmin and blank out the option_value from the ping_site row.

I’m running 2.0.1. I did what you said and went to http://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/options.php and deleted the values in ping_sites. When I clicked on Update Settings I got page cannot be displayed error.

So I made the change in the database and that worked.

Do you know why this error is occurring? Will I have to always have to make changes to the ping list through the database? What a pain!

Please answer my questions above regarding why this is happening and if I will have to always edit mysql instead of using wp-admin??????????

Would someone answer this question … after reading the previous posts?

I got page cannot be displayed error.

Sounds like a connectivity problem. Maybe your browser had trouble, or maybe your Web site had trouble connecting to the SQL backend server.

Please, don’t double post – it will be deleted.

WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTIONS:

I’ve been trying and trying to get this question answered (see below) but can’t get a reasonable answer.

    Here’s the problem

I’m using 2.0.1. When I go to Options/Writing/Update Services and enter a new ping list and then click Update Options, it goes to the blog itself or gets a page cannot be found error.

The result is the ping list cannot be changed through the admin panel.

I’ve built lots of blogs and have never had this problem before and am having this problem only on a new server I’m using. I’ve tried this dozens of times on various days and have never changed my browser or isp … I have this problem on one server but not others.

I asked on the forum how to fix this and MichaelH suggested I go into the mysql database and manually put in the new ping list and that worked.

Here’s my question I keep asking:

Do you know why this error is occurring? Will I have to always make changes to the ping list through the database? What can’t I make these changes through the admin panel?

Should I contact the webhost … is it their version of wp 2.0.1 or is there something else that is wrong?

    What should I do?

I’d like someone to answer. Thank you.

Here’s my question I keep asking:

Do you know why this error is occurring?
    No.

Will I have to always make changes to the ping list through the database?
We don’t know, we are not psychics.

What can’t I make these changes through the admin panel?
Because something is wrong with your setup.

Should I contact the webhost … is it their version of wp 2.0.1
    Yes, your should.
More importantly, do a manual upgrade to 2.0.2.
Never rely on hosts and their “automatic” gizmos – you get what you got.

    And finally:
I’ve built lots of blogs and have never had this problem before and am having this problem only on a new server I’m using.
Didn’t occur to you that this “new server” might be not the best choice…?

Your sarcastic response is NOT appreciated.

I have same problem as aimbright. I really dont want to go into phpmyadmin stuff since I am no coder.

I noticed when I tried to update email address or password, I would get same error as he did whetner it is for ping update or other — all will goes error page. (Warning: Page has Expired)

I think one of the plugins may have caused it but I don’t know which one.

    Any idea?
