  • I think that is up to your host to upgrade. A lot of hosts have already updated their versions of WP already. You should contact your host about this.

No it is a WordPress -> Fantastico issue. I have my own dedicated server and my “host” is The Planet, which is pretty damn good about updates. Plus – I am not totally sure – Fantastico on your server is actually a Fantastico to Your server issue … The Planet is no middle man .

This is not WordPress’ problem. WordPress has no control over what Fantastico does and how they do it. This is either a problem between you and your hosting provider or you and whomever controls Fantastico these days. Again, WordPress has no control over Fantastico.

Upon further investigation, I have discovered how the upgrade procedure actually works. First, Fantastico chooses which new versions to include in their next release. Then, your hosting provider must update to the latest release of Fantastico. Again, WordPress is not part of this equation. It took Fantastico about about a month to switch from WordPress v1.2.2 to v1.5.

Yes mac, I never said that Fantastico and WordPress work together. But what I am saying is, WordPress has to submit the update to Fantastico. And I own a copy of Fantastico myself, since I have a dedciated server. But I was just wondering if WP submitted the update, since Fantastico updates a lot. However I agree – though it took a hell of a lot longer to get from 122 to 15.

WordPress has to submit the update to Fantastico

This is not correct as far as I understand it, it’s not WP’s job to make sure that Fantastico is up to date with the latest version. I don’t many, if any, software apps that are offered in this way.

Fantastico decides as and when they update their software – this is at a cost to them, and which is why I always reommend not to use some GUI to install things like WP because they will never be up to date. This is a fantastico problem and issue, not WP. They know where WP is and will keep up to date it with it – when they have a large update to make they may apply 1.5.1.2 to the next lot, but again, this is up to Fantastico NOT WP.

Contact them and you’ll find that they update as and when they choose not when an update for an app is released. It would be too costly for them to update several servers due to the number of applications they offer for install just for one opensource application (regardless of its popularity)

Jinsan is correct, Fantastico has to discover the update on their own and choose whether or not they would like to include it in the next release. There is no way to submit updates. Honestly, the entire process sickens me. The WordPress developers have setup downloads to use latest.tar.gz (or latest.zip) so that everyone should have the latest version. Every graphical script install that I’ve seen, except Fantastico, says “WordPress (latest version)” and it downloads and installs latest.tar.gz. Fantastico just has a backwards way of doing everything.

My host is Vizaweb, and their version of Fantastico had the 1.5 WP upgrade within just a few days of its release.

It may not be just Fantastico, it may be your actual host.

Or you just need to go back into Fantastico, into the WP loader, then you’ll see the “1.5 upgrade available” link. You have to manually go in and click the link to upgrade; it will not do it on it’s own.

The upgrade takes about 1 minute and is extremely painless, but you must do it yourself.
