• Hi Everyone,

I am planning to work on an old site of mine and to update a lot of content. When I worked on that I didn’t know much about seo, keyword research etc – and now I would like to freshen up things in a smart way.

However, I have a terrible problem and I really need your guys knowledge to deal with it the best I can. Let’s take this page as an example.

Is there a way for me to update the content and the publishing date while keeping the same url?

I have backlinks and social shares I want to keep, but it’d be also brilliant if I could bring it back to the homepage. Is there any way to get this done?

Thank you all very much in advance.

  • Yes you can keep the same URL! Just don’t change the ‘permalink’ field just below the page title field.

Unfortunately it didn’t work. I tried with this one, and it changed the year in the permalink.

You want update the content and the publishing date, Example from Jan 2015 become Feb 2016 without change the url. Is that right?

If yes, you can do that with wordpress.

Trick: After all update. You can manually change the permalink (slug post) with old url.
Note: You must backup the old permalink.

    Good luck!

Incorrect, you can’t change the publish by date and keep the same date in the URL. If you update the publish date the URL will change. It wouldn’t make sense to have date archives if you can change the ‘display date’ and ‘publish date’ individually.

To avoid the 404 error install a redirection plugin and forward the old URL to the new one. You wont lose visitors that way.
