    Hi,

    regarding to this topic I have a question. You wrote “…the sitemap is dynamic which means it is (re)created on the fly at each request.”

    The question is: what is a request for you 🙂

    I have set the option “Add image tags for: attached images”. So I have the ns2:title and ns2:caption in my sitemap. Thats perfect! But when I now update an image (for example the titel or the alt tag) the changes will not be updated in the sitemap.

    The update of the sitemap only happens when you update a post or page. So I have to look for the post (where the image is placed) and update the post. This is a little bit complicated.

    Can you also update the sitemap when there are changes on the images?
    Or can you add the possibility to update the sitemap “once a day”?

    With “request” I meant every visitor or search engine that comes to the sitemap URL and requests that document for viewing 🙂

    But when I now update an image (for example the titel or the alt tag) the changes will not be updated in the sitemap.

    This happens because this (so-called) meta data is cached to speed up the dynamic sitemap generation — on each request 😉 … and this cached data is purged when the post is modified.

    But you can also go to Settings > XML Sitemap and hit the button “Clear post meta caches” which will purge all meta info for all posts. The next time the sitemap is requested, this info will be recreated and cached again.

    And ss it possible (and reasonable) to add the ALT Tags from images to the sitemap?

    The image sitemap schema allows for the following attributes: loc (the URL), title, caption, geo_location and license. There is no official alt attribute in the sitemap schema. This plugin supports loc, title and caption but you can of course copy your alt text to the caption field manually…

    But then I have to manually “Clear post meta caches” everytime I change the title or caption of an image.

    Is there a possibility to update the sitemap automatically “once a day” (including the image meta data) in combination with dynamic sitemap generation (when users or search engines comes to the sitemap)?

    Do you change your image titles a lot? You could clear the cache one a day manually…

    In any case, I’ll add it to the feature request list: clear cache after modification of images too, not only after post modification. Or maybe after a preset time interval. 🙂
