Support » Fixing WordPress » Update notifications not working and version missing

  • Ever since I upgraded to 3.5 (was at 3.4.x – I upgrade to each new version soon after it’s released), the notifications of new versions of WordPress and any plugins is broken.

In the dashboard, there’s no notification button in the top bar or the standard black number “button” for theme or plugin updates. If I go to the list of installed plugins, the “Update Available” filter does show plugins that need updating.

Also, if I go to Updates screen (I’m running a WP Network/multisite), it doesn’t show the version of WordPress that’s running. I see a dash where the version should show up, both in the text message and the link/button to download it.

You have the latest version of WordPress. You do not need to update. However, if you want to re-install version –, you can do so automatically or download the package and re-install manually:

    Re-install Now Download –

I was able to do a manual update to 3.5.1 but that hasn’t helped. I’m not running any plugins or modifications to hide the version.

Anyone have any ideas what’s blocking the version and update notifications?

    Thank you, in advance!

  • It’ll most likely be one of your plugins. One of my sites has a modified version of WP e-Commerce running and I have the same issue, it didn’t do it prior to WordPress 3.3.

As soon as I disable it all the notifications show.

Dashboard > Updates still works though, I can’t remember what the multisite equivalent is.
