# Update not working

 * When I click to update to the latest version, I’m taken to a page where all looks
   like it’s updating – except at the last minute, it says the plugin update failed.
   I can update other plugins, just not this one. Here’s what it says:
 * Update Plugin
    Downloading update from [https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wordpress-seo.1.7.4.zip…](https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wordpress-seo.1.7.4.zip…)
   Unpacking the update… Installing the latest version… Removing the old version
   of the plugin… Could not remove the old plugin. Plugin update failed. Return 
   to Plugins page

 * This usually means there is a problem with file permissions. The easiest work-
   around is to do a manual update. If you don’t know how to do that, please check
