# Update field value

 * I am trying to use this:
    [http://developer.ninjaforms.com/codex/submission-processing-hooks/](http://developer.ninjaforms.com/codex/submission-processing-hooks/)
 * This thing never happens –
    $field[ ‘value’ ] = ‘foo’; // Update the submitted
   field value.
 * And the value doesn’t change.
    I have some hidden field that has to be assigned
   during processing post.

   that script is the Field Key check (line 9). The field key can be found in the
   Administration Field Settings in the builder.

 * I know that.
    I have using it with right key:
 * if( ‘MY_KEY_ID_FROM_BUILDER’ != $field[ ‘key’ ] ) continue;
 * But it was not working.
    I found the reason – and the reason was default value
   of the field -> it overwrites everything, even this function hook.
