    When I try to update to WordPress 5.1.1, wordpress just tells me this:

    Downloading update from https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-5.1.1-new-bundled.zip…
    Download failed.: Destination directory for file streaming does not exist or is not writable.
    Installation Failed

    Plugins that need updates do the same thing. The site’s still up, and it’s hosted with TSOHost and everything looks alright in their end, I just can’t run updates. Some other wordpressers have had this trouble in particular browsers, but I get the problem in all browsers.

    ?

    Recently I have also been getting occasional emails from the Jetpack Monitor saying the site has gone down, then it goes back up a few minutes later… not sure what those are about but I guess they could be connected?

    Check the folder permissions for wp-content folder should be 755 or 750, you can check that via file manager in your hosting control panel.

    Also check your wp-config.php file see if you have a line that says something like:

    define(‘WP_TEMP_DIR’, ABSPATH . ‘wp-content/temp/’);

    If not you can try adding it to the bottom of the file (make sure you download a copy of the file in case anything goes wrong)

    Thanks for your help, it seems to have worked now anyway before I could do that. So who knows, some temporary problem at the host’s end maybe.
