Support » Plugin: Cache Enabler » “Update failed”: inconsistent file permissions

    Hi,

I’m currently on 1.7.2 and am trying to update the plugin.

When doing so I’m getting the error message:
Update failed: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.

Previous updates have succeeded and there’s permission 755 on the major subdirectories so I’m puzzled by this message.

Anything specific I should look at?

    Thanks!

That is an odd issue. Does the same thing occur even when trying to update to version 1.8.4? If yes, does updating the file permissions of the wp-content/plugins directory to 755 resolve this issue?

Version 1.8.4 is what I’m trying to upgrade to, and setting wp-content/plugins to 755 was the first thing I tried.

Thanks for the additional information. I’m assuming wp-content is also at 755 then? If yes, is the server user that PHP is running under have the right permissions? Does this occur when trying to update other plugins as well?

Yes wp-content is 755 and no, the problem never occurred with other plugins (incl. Cache Enabler) in the past.

Your question about the server user prompted me to get in touch with my hosting which explained they did correct the permissions of the user.

Great! I’m happy to hear the issue has been resolved. Thanks for letting me know! If you haven’t already leaving a review is always helpful and appreciated.
