# Update Failed error when updating TEC

 * Lately, every time I update The Events Calendar plug-in I wind up with an “Update
   failed” error displayed in the “The Events Calendar” section of the plug-ins 
   page. The update is successfully applied, so I’m not sure why that is occuring.
   The latest updated included a number of the following strings:
 * “<!– a padding to disable MSIE and Chrome friendly error page –>”

 * Do you have the full error message? Is it something like this?
    `Installation
   failed: 502 Bad Gateway 502 Bad Gateway nginx <!– a padding to disable MSIE and
   Chrome friendly error page –> <!– a padding to disable MSIE and Chrome friendly
   error page –>`
 * Then the 502 error means that something is wrong with a website’s server communication—
   the edge server (server acting as a proxy) could not get a valid or any response
   from the origin server (also called an upstream server).
 * If you always see this error during your update, you could try doing a [manual update](https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/manual-updates/)
   instead.
