Update existing subscribers not working

    Hi,
    I set up two forms – one regular and one with a freebie. Both adding subscribers to the same list in mailchimp.

    the one with a freebie adds a special tag to my subscribers (lets say it’s tag “freebie”). I checked the “update existing subscribers” option in the form’s setting – so the way i understand it, if someone’s already subscribed to my list (through the other form for example) but still wanted to get a freebie later, they would just use the freebie form, and the list would be updated (and the new tag added to the given user’s email).

    however, the form shows an error and this is not working as expected.

    do i need to configure something else? am i missing some configuration in the form or in the mailchimp list itself?

    What error is the form showing? Any error in the log on MailChimnp for WP > Other page?

    Besides getting an error, we recommend using Interest groups for this instead of tags. Interest groups implementation in MailChimp API is more mature and works better with our plugin. In the form settings you can set it to Update or Overwrite interest groups, with tags you do not have such options. I think switching to interest groups may solve this issue for you.

    The error I was getting on the form was the generic one (“something went wrong”)

    I checked the logs (didn’t think of it earlier, damn), and it turned out it was my user (i tested on my account multiple times, and it’s the error when the user unsubscribed from the list before => which means that “resubscribing” is no longer possible)

    Thanks for the tip with interest groups, I’ll give it a shot! Other than that, once I used the non-unsubscribed email, everything worked!
