# Update database encoding error

 * I had an outdated database and wordpress recognized it and requested to update
   it. Now I have some messed up posts here is an example of the text.
 * `world?…Oh I’ll go to Hulu and watch the latest Daily show; what is everyone
   up to? …lets head over to Facebook. Lit`
 * It looks like it has been character encoded wrongly. Any ideas?

 * What character encoding are you using? Changing the character encoding of a database
   is a nightmare. I’d suggest making sure you’re using UTF-8. If you’re not, and
   your site is in english – you may want to collate the database to UTF-8. IF you
   do this though, it will not affect any content already in the database. I hope
   this helps!
