Update-core not updating

    When I am told I have plugins and themes to upgrade, I go to wp-admin/update-core.php, select, and hit upgrade. The items say that they upgrade, but when I select any other page in admin, the upgrades disappear, and it seems nothing ended up being upgraded at all. The only way to upgrade is to manually FTP in.

    Does anybody have any idea why this could be happening, and how to fix it?
