 * I’m new to wordpress, I’ve never updated a theme. I’m nervous about updating 
   the theme, I won’t lose anything I’ve worked on will I?

 * Oh gosh, as far as the editor goes? Or stuff in the pages, posts. etc.? I’m currently
   trying to remove the page title, but it’s not working for me. Here’s my site:

 * I’m trying to get my site without a sidebar too and my developer did something
   to remove it, but I’m not sure exactly how he did it.
 * I have made changes in the layout builder on pages, etc. but I don’t think I’ve
   changed anything other than that.

 * As long as you haven’t made edits to the theme’s files (in Appearance > Editor)
   then you’re fine.

 * Remember to backup your site before any update, just in case something do change.

 * Maybe this hepls: [WordPress Backups](http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups#Backing_Up_Your_WordPress_Site)
 * If you are familiar with FTP and WordPress structure, you could download a copy
   of the theme files.
 * Maybe your host provider offers backups or is already doing it.
 * And there are several plugins that will help with backups (Example: [updraftplus](https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/))
