I have the same problem.
I too removed the comment part. And I have set all post to ‘not allow comments’. But I still get SPAM comments on those post that’s supposedly not allowing comments and have no area to comment on.
HELP!
Try downloading the Akismet plugin, this should catch the spam and allow you to manage it more effectively. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/akismet/

I have a simple blog where i just want to post information and don’t want any user comments on any posts. I have deleted the html code for comments under each post and have disabled ‘allow users to post comments’ in the admin section. Yet every so often im getting emails saying i have new comments to be approved and when i go to see what they are they are all spam type ad’s with link’s etc.
How are they even getting access to post comment’s and even though the comments dont show up because i unapprove and delete them, i’d like a way to get rid of this pesky problem.
