Support » Fixing WordPress » Unusual Amount Of Database Queries?

  • Hey guys,

    I’ve recently moved my site onto a vps server. It’s a pretty powerful VPS with 2GB ram but it keeps crashing and running out of memory. I’ve a few other sites on it, about 15 some wordpress, some just html. But the reason I reckon it’s crashing is because of 1 website in particular, which is my main one.

    I asked the hosts to help me set up logs and such, and we discovered in my slow-queries log that there was lots of queries running from that sites database, pretty much any queries in the log were from that database. Many of them upwards of 300 in duration, I could see where multiple ones had spawned just before the server crashed. They were mainly these queries

    SELECT option_name, option_value FROM wp_options WHERE autoload = 'yes';

    A bit of googling showed me that excessive queries of this nature can be due to spammers and auto bots attacking the site so I installed the plugin bad behavior. This has since blocked nearly 3500 attempts on the site in the last week alone, and my slow queries log no longer has those crazy long queries in it.

    However it does still seem to be crashing, from that database. It’s my largest database, but not huge by any means- 56mb, and traffic is only about 10,000 hits a month..

    I noticed in my slow-queries log, just before the server crashed today that there was many many queries , I’d say about 50 running at once for

    SELECT option_value FROM wp_options WHERE option_name = 'al2fb_multiple' LIMIT 1;

    Or a slight variance with query times of 90 secs or so as well as one or two others

    Surely this isn’t right? It’s only the database that has all these queries running. Could this be something to do with the theme I’m running (freshlife by theme junkie)? Or is my site being attacked by a bot?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don’t have much knowledge of this sort of thing so any help is greatly appreciated!
