 * Hi
 * Need help with a srings that remain untranslated within a theme.
 * The theme developer suggests these fields are in .po of the theme. If multilanguage
   plugin works with .po files, then it should be able to find them in wpresidence.
   po so and allow translation to a different langauge
 * Usually translation from English to another language is done through standard
   POEDIT procedure, but not sure how Polylang handles these.
 * The questions are:
    Does Polylang work with .po files? If so, why is it not picking
   these strings (only 5 strings in the entire site)?
 * Appreciate your help.

 * Hi
 * Polylang reads only the .mo.
 * Poedit must upload the .po and .mo files.

 * Hi Chrystl
 * Thank you for your commment. Can this be done manually i.e. can the .PO be uploaded
   manually? The strange thing in this case is that only 5 strings are not translated.
   I can only assume these are the only 5 srtings in the .PO and everything else
   is in .MO

 * > can the .PO be uploaded manually?
 * Not sure to understand your question. But this .po must be in your FTP (wp-content
   > themes > wpresidence > languages). And you should be able to upload it thanks
   to Poedit or the Loco translate plugin.
 * > The strange thing in this case is that only 5 strings are not translated.
 * Could you confirm that these strings are well provided by your theme and not
   write by you in some field options?

 * The 5 missing strings are not custom fields, they are standard strings from the
   theme.
 * Polylang has successfully translated all custom fields strings + all standard
   strings except these 5.

 * Instead of Poedit could you use the Loco Translate plugin to translate these
   5 strings?
    [https://wordpress.org/plugins/loco-translate/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/loco-translate/)
 * EDIT: Does Poedit give you the possibilities to translate these 5 strings? Or
   they just don’t appear in it.

 * Not sure what problems could be caused by 2 plugins trying to do the same thing
   on the site. Would it cause a conflict or slow down the page-load as the page
   tries to load both plugins? Only asking as common sense says it is not a good
   idea, but then WordPress and Plugins do not always go hand-in-hand with common
   sense!

 * I think that you misunderstand the role of Polylang. Polylang doesn’t translate
   the strings provided by your theme.
    Only a programm as Poedit or a plugin as
   Loco Translate can do that. They put the theme strings in a .mo. file. After
   that Polylang use the .mo to display the different translated strings depending
   of the language.
 * After used the Loco translate plugin you can remove it from your admin.
 * > but then WordPress and Plugins do not always go hand-in-hand with common sense!
 * Polylang yes, because it use the basic WordPress functionalities as filter, actions…

 * Hi Chrystl
 * Thanks for your help and suggestion. I am going to try your idea. Just before
   I do, can I clarify if I can leave Polylang active whilst I install and run Loco.
   I am concerned as to what happens to the existing translation strings as we have
   spent hours doing it.

 * Yes of course.

 * I prefer that you ask to the Loco Translate author if you have some risk to loose
   your Poedit translations.
    But you can make a copy of your .po and .mo files.
 * Which strings are not translated and could you give a link to your website?

 * Hi Chrystl
 * I have installed Loco Translate.
 * According to Loco Translate the .MO file contains 1063 strings however Polylang
   is only showing 165 strings! Sort of explains the missing fields although as
   we can only see 5 strings that are missing.
 * Interestingly we can see these in the Loco Translate .MO file but Polylang is
   not picking them up at all. Does that sound right to you?
 * Any ideas on what we can do to force Polylang to see these strings?
 * Regards

 * Settings > Languages > String Translations
 * It shows “165 Items << < 1 of 9 > >>”
 * I have reveiwed all 9 pages and they are all correct but still the 5 we need
   do not show up!! These include:
    - Property ID
    - Price
    - Property Size
    - Bedrooms
    - Bathrooms
 * Here is a link for an example [http://www.zanityproperty.com/new/mn/properties/белла-виста-хо…вшинтэй-зайсан/](http://www.zanityproperty.com/new/mn/properties/белла-виста-хо…вшинтэй-зайсан/)

 * I understand now your confusion.
    .mo file and “String Translations” are 2 different
   things.
 * In .mo you have only the static strings provided/created by your theme.
 * In the “String Translations” you have only dynamic strings which are created
   by yourself, generally thanks to the Theme Options of your theme.
    Your 5 strings
   seem to be provided by your theme and you should not see them in the “String
   Translations” option.
 * Now please could you answer to my questions:
    1- Are you able to translate or
   see these 5 strings in the “String Translations” option. If yes, please provide
   a screen copy.
 * 2- Did you translate these 5 strings thanks to Loco Translate?
    3- Or not because
   they don’t appear in Loco Translate?

 * Hi
 * Thanks for your explanation.
 * Anwering your questions as below:
    1. These 5 strings do not appear in the String
   Translations at all, so we cannot translate them.
 * 2. The terms appear in Loco Translate.
 * This is the 1st time I am using Loco Translate so need to take this step buy
   step.
 * The site has 2 lanuages English UK & Mongolian
    1. Do I need to save an English
   UK version of .MO before adding & Saving Mongolian.mo? 2. Do I need to translate
   all 1088 strings or can I just translate the 5 missing strings in Mongolian.MO?
 * Sorry if these sound like stupid questions but in the past we have simply used
   Polylang out of the box which has worked with other themes without any problem.
   This is the first time we have had to start to dig deep in the theme to translate
   all strings.

 * 1. Yes you can make a save. Loco Translate proposes you to place your files in
   2 different places. You should choose this: [http://nimb.ws/t9KNin](http://nimb.ws/t9KNin)

   Like this you won’t loose your work at the next update.
 * If you choose this setting, Loco Translate will name your files like this: wpresidence-
   mn.po and wpresidence-mn.mo (wpresidence should be the text-domain of your theme).
 * 2. You can try to translate your 5 strings, save your translations and see if
   they appear correctly.
    Then if you want translate more strings in mongolian
   edit it by clicking on “mongolian” : [http://nimb.ws/M0wWNl](http://nimb.ws/M0wWNl)
