  • Is just the author not being very responsive. I’m using it in WP 4.3 and apparently works.

    Marking as resolved; if anyone else is interested in the answer, yes this was because the plugin’s “Readme.txt” included in every WordPress plugin was not updated for several weeks, this file contains the version number that was used to test every stable version of the code, usually WordPress updates should not affect the plugin’s code as it uses very basic built-in PHP functions, so unless WordPress decides to drastically change their code from night to morning the plugin will not break.
