Unsuccessful URL change and site has disappeared
-
Originally my site was on URL http://www.memorablemarketing.co.uk/admin.
Before going live, I wanted to change the site URL so it was just http://www.memorablemarketing.co.uk.
I did the following:
– Settings>General> Site Address (URL) – changed to http://www.memorablemarketing.co.uk and left WordPress Address (URL) as http://www.memorablemarketing.co.uk/admin
– Appearance>menus>Home – changed URL to http://www.memorablemarketing.co.ukUnfortunately my site isn’t live on either URL, even with a hard refresh.
Any advice? I can’t find the wp-config.php file in my filemanager.
Also, my homepage doesn’t seem to appear on the menu or in the list of pages. Any advice on that either?
Thanks

Give a good read of this guideline and reset your URL:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URLOk I did that by updating the wp-config.php file with these lines:
define('WP_HOME','http://www.memorablemarketing.co.uk'); define('WP_SITEURL','http://www.memorablemarketing.co.uk/admin');
The WP URL (the admin area) was then accessible at http://www.memorablemarketing.co.uk/admin but the site itself at http://www.memorablemarketing.co.uk was not. I was getting the error: ‘Directory has no index file.’ but the index.php file is there.
I checked for any references to the old domain name in my template files and couldn’t find any.
I then removed the code above from wp-config.php and the WP URL was accessible but the home URL (or any behind pages) still wasn’t.
Any further advice?
thanksWhere did you install WordPress? At
memorablemarketing.co.uk/admin
?Yes, at least that’s the URL I specified. I edit it at http://www.memorablemarketing.co.uk/admin/wp-admin. When I first built the site that was the admin link and also the home URL.
It looks like an incomplete WordPress installation. Is it a new site? If so, reinstall WordPress. If not tell us if you have a backup to restore the site?
It’s installed via ipage, and was fine until I changed home URL. I’ve been using it for about 6 weeks no probs. I haven’t backedup as files are stored in ipage file manager.
If you can restore MySQL database, it is better to go for a working fresh install and restore your database. Perhaps your host can help you with it.
Krishna thanks for your help
Welcome! 🙂
