I can’t seem to make a child theme which includes the different stlyes as it should from this theme. I have tried using the plugin Child Theme Configurator, which although it hasn’t been tested with this WP version, has always been successful in the past. I then tried Child Theme Wizard, which is compatible with the latest WP version, and still no success. Lastly, I generated my own files for a child them and still no luck. I can’t see what I am missing in this process. I’ve made many child sheets successfully before. The problem is, When I go to Editor (beta) to start working on my appearance, I go to to the Styles link at the top, and only one style shows up. I really want the flexibility of different styles. I hope someone can help.

  • Try the Create Block Theme plugin. https://wordpress.org/plugins/create-block-theme/

    Hey @loisb,

As @yogabasics has said, the Create Block Theme plugin might be a good option here.

For what it’s worth, child themes for Block Themes — such as Twenty Twenty Three — are a bit more involved than for Classic Themes. If you’re creating your child theme manually (by including a style.css file) and would like it to contain the parent theme’s Style Variations, you’ll need to copy the parent theme’s styles/ folder to the child theme.

It’s possible that the Child Theme Wizard plugin isn’t currently taking this into account. As for WordPress.org’s own learning resources, we have some material on creating a child theme for a Block Theme, but it doesn’t currently mention the styles/ folder; I’ll ask folks to include this information.

    Hope that helps!

Update: I’ve asked to update our learn.wordpress.org resource, and filed an issue to potentially change the behavior to auto-include a parent theme’s style variations in the future.

Thank you all for your support. It was the Twenty Twenty Three Theme I was trying to make the child for. I will try both of your suggestions @yogabasics and @bernhard-reiter just as a learning exercise for myself. I have since just went in and worked with the block editor and found that I could create what I needed without the styles that normally would have come with the theme. I am loving the Full Site Editor!!

@loisb Glad you’re liking the Site Editor! I’ll mark this thread as resolved but feel free to start a new one if we can help with anything else.
