Hi mbeachy,
Never hear about.
I suggest to block it.
Try to put it at your blacklist (my blacklist tab)
example:
bot_
bot:
(one for line)
and so on
Don’t put only the word “bot” to avoid to block google bot and a lot more.
Then, keep an eye on at emails coming in your inbox to double check what happens.
Don’t forget to click SAVE CHANGES buttton.
Regards,
Bill
how do we do this now that Blacklist is now Add new bad bot to the bad bots Table?
“Do not use special characters.”
thanks
Hi,
I will run a couple of tests and let you know.
Cheers,
Bill
Thanks! This ‘Unknown robot’ is driving me crazy!
If you talking about google analytics, please, take a look this:
http://stopbadbots.com/faq/ and look for Analytics SPAM referral
In this case, try to create a filter at your analytics account.
I will run a couple of tests and let you know.
No, this Unknown robot is consuming 2GB a day according to Not Viewed traffic in AWStats in the site Cpanel. Has nothing to do with Analytics. This is real, and it is clobbering our bandwidth. Thanks
Hi,
I ran the test, you can add this 7 bots:
bot_
bot-
bot:
bot;
bot+
bot,
bot.
All works fine.
To add, go to your dashboard => StopBadBots => Add Bad Bot to Table
You can also take a look at your log and try to find some specific string at user agent, then add this string to the bad bots table. Or, if they use the same ip, you can block their IP at your cPanel or .htaccess file.
Cheers,
Bill
Thanks! I will return and post a followup to let you know how it goes!
Yesterday I saw much reduced bandwidth used, even without adding these wildcard robots! Thanks so much! The most blocked bot was Yandex, followed by scanner, SiteExplorer, MJ12bot, CFNetwork & SeznamBot. Could these have been the ‘Unknown’ robots?
Hi,
I’m happy. Take a look at your Bots table, click over the column title NUM BLocked to see the bots blocked and their quantity.
We are testing a new version with more bots and features.
Cheers,
Bill
