Unknown and unseen users claim to have been added!

    I got two emails from wordpress@<mydomain> telling me “New user registration on your site <name of wordpress instance>:” and giving me the user name and the email address of the new user(s). I don’t recognize either of them, but when I look at Users in my WP screen, they are not listed — only 3 users in my WP, and none of these new weird ones. What can I do about this?
