Support » Plugin: Social Media Share Buttons | MashShare » Unfortunately not GDPR conform (in German DSGVO)

  • Resolved per4mance

Unfortunately your plugin is not GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) conform, in German DSGVO (Datenschutz-Grundverordnung).

When I use Firefox Klar mobile browser for my iPhone, it shows me social tracking of WhatsApp or Facebook. I believe it has to do with WhatsApp. Although I do not use any social button with entries to one of these networks, it shows me a tracking.

    Please can you check this?

After deactivating your plugin, social tracking has gone.

  • Me again!
I’ve to correct myself. After deactivating all social networks buttons and 24h waiting, Firefox Klar (in English Focus) doesn’t show social tracking anymore.

Now your plugin id GDPR (DSVGO) conform. But your plugin is not, if you use social buttons to other networks who collect datas.

    Thank you đŸ™‚

@per4mance The plugin is not loading any external resources from either any MashShare server nor for any other third party like Whatsapp or facebook so from my understand of the GDPR is is compliant with it. I can only assume that it is a false assumption by the Firefox Klar browser if it says there is some social tracking in it. Maybe it detects links to facebook or whatsapp as tracking links even though they are not. It’s a difference if you have a link like which you have to click actively to submit data to social networks instead having something like an image link like Such image link allows facebook to track visitors from beginning of the page loading without having the need to click actively on anything.

If you have more details or insights I am happy if you share your data with me.

Hi René, thank you for your response. If I am right, the main issues I see are in aticle 4 of GDPR (DSGVO), see e.g. points 2., 4. under German law version, which starts with definition.

When a user sees your Facebook button for example he doesn’t know that behind this button facebook pulls personal information. This is because of the connection the button does. For my understanding the GDPR says that by pushing the button the user has to get the information that Facebook will pull personal data. The user have to agree actively by accepting this. But it’s not allowed anymore to do this silent.

Privacy in Europe gets a face and it’s hard to fulfil all details. That’s my experience. For weeks I’m working on it for a school. That’s why I deactivated all network entries of your great plugin, so I’m using only page counter, newsletter function and E-Mail recommendation.

    Best to you,
