# Unexpected Error

 * Hi everyone,
 * I just installed WordPress. Everything works, except every time I try to search
   for new themes or plugins I get the error:
 * An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this
   server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support
   forums.
 * I tried installing it once manually, and when that didn’t work, I tried to do
   the quick install through my hosting cpanel. (I’m using Hostgator).
 * Any help on what to do next would be awesome.
 * My site is statikprod.com

 * Scanned. Everything is fine. I just installed it, so I don’t think there is enough
   time for malware to get in.

 * – Check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message. If you
   need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

 * This often means that your host is not allowing outbound connections. Sometimes
   you can turn that on through cPanel. Your host would know.

 * If this a case of the host not allowing outbound requests from the server, this
   will not show in the error log. WordPress handles it with the WP_Error class 
   and simply does an echo to the browser with the error message. I don’t believe
   it goes into any log. (server error log or WordPress debug log)

 * I over simplified the echo bit, but WordPress does call `_default_wp_die_handler()`
   which basically just outputs html.

 * It’s all set. Apparently there was a setting on the server side that needed to
   be fixed. I don’t know what it was, I contacted them and they fixed it for me.
