Understanding "no follow"

    Ria_Amp,
    The “no follow” attribute is intended for any link you do not want the search engines to follow and index from your site. So most of the time, Yes, they are for redirects – BUT, if you have a redirect from one page on your site to another, then you do not need the no follow attribute, as you do want them to index the pages on your site.

    General rule of thumb – if a link goes to an external URL that you do not own or have a connection with, then you can make it a “no follow” link. There are exceptions, but that is the best course of action if you are not really sure when to use them.
