uncertain about back up... (4 posts)

I'm going off of the codex doc on how to back up the database.

I am concerned because at the part where one has all of the stuff one needs selected (I select all because I only have the wordpress stuff here) I don't have a button/choice to select SQL. I did check structure & add drop table and enclose table and field names with backquotes. However, I did not get the choice of add auto increment and I don't know what consequences that will make. So, I downloaded anyway, as zip & as gzip, but the zip file says decompression failed. Gzip file appears ok...

Do I need to worry about any of this? I do need this back up to work in order to move the site and as you can tell, I'm not sure what I'm doing... is there a way to test that that backup is good? I upload with GoLive & wonder: is the site I have in my local half of the upload/download window a valid backup? I keep this up to date.

My header says that I'm using phpMyAdmin 2.4.0 and I have a mac (os 10.3.9). I haven't had any problems using Safari for the browser.

    thank you so kindly!

Have you checked the recent backup plugin? It works great and can send your backup my mail each day!

I will try this, but was hoping to find out whether I'd done the back up as described correctly...
and whether the GoLive files are a backup...
