Uncategorized Slug

There absolutely has to be a way to do this, and it’s a challenge, so read carefully!

I’m wanting to remove the slug entirely when using the category “uncategorized” within the URL. However, it seems that using RewriteEngine isn’t working (and I’ve tried a lot of different variations) and I can’t seem to find the code -anywhere- to modify it.

For example, I would like to have:

mysite.com/uncategorized/about.htm
– become:
mysite.com/about.htm

– however:
mysite.com/cool/stuff.htm
– will stay:
mysite.com/cool/stuff.htm

— So, how do you remove the uncategorized slug? You can’t delete it in the options (or in mysql anyways) and there isn’t a plugin that does this, nor can I find the code to do it myself.

So if you have any ideas, please let me know! Because I’m sure it hasn’t been done yet and would be nice if there’s a way to do it.
