Support » Fixing WordPress » Unable to Verify site with Google Webmaster Tools

  • Hi Everyone,

First off, I have had a look over the READ THIS article, so hope that my topic properly formatted and believe that I have almost everything possible on my side to rule out what may be causing my following issue.

The problem with my site this evening has been getting it to be verified as a new property on the Google Webmaster Tools interface.

    Active Plugins:

      Akismet Anti-Spam
Coming Soon Page & Maintenance Mode by SeedProd
      Cookie Law Info
      DMS Professional Tools
      Enhanced Media Library
      Google XML Sitemap
      Hello Dolly
      Jetpack by
      MailChimp for WordPress
      One-Click Child Theme
      PageLines Updater
      Schema App Structured Data
Sucuri Security – Auditing, Malware Scanner and Hardening
      WordPress Importer
      WP Broken Link Status Checker
      Yoast SEO

    Tested Already:

I have added the HTML Tag in every possible orephis that wordpress and it plugins will allow. 🙂

    – Yoast Plugin under the Setting tabs
    – WordPress Dashboard under Tools > Available Tool
    – Manually Directly into the head tag of the site
    – Into the Head tag provided by my Coming Soon Page plugin

    All to no avail.

I have also tested using the Google Analytics Method…

    – MonsterInsights plugin authorised successfully, however did not verify on the Google Dashboard
    – Inputted the tracking code straight into the Coming Soon plugin

The Domain Provider method was also run, and continued to run for a whole minute only to give me the cheery 4 letter word that I am thinking of tattooing to my computer screen.

Would you recommend I try giving the Tag Manage option a go along with the HTML file option? I am holding off as they seem to be a little bit more involved.

Also, as none of these methods have been very fruitful, I am not sure these will be either.

Would love to hear any other methods or ideas you think could be causing this issue to occur.

P.S. I have attempted to verify with all plugins deactivated, and well you can finis that sentence on your own.

Appreciate any help, but it’s 1.40am here, so I am off now for a fever dream…Speak soon.

  • I always do the HTML file option. You download what Google gives you and then upload it to the root directory of the website using FTP or the webhost’s file manager. (Same directory that has the .htaccess and robots.txt files).

That way, never have to worry about the WordPress code itself containing it.

    Nice one Mark,

    Thank you for the pointers.

Mysteriously though, after revisiting the Google Webmassacre Console, the verification option using Google Analytics actually decided to work!

All happy now, If I decide to invest an FTP manager I might get it verified this way. I am bit apprehensive about using the free options like FileZilla, as I am using the AppleOS.

    Many Thanks,
