I have tried disabling all plugins but made no difference.

    Thanks in advance

    It could be:

Permissions – is your web user / group able to write to the uploads directory?

It might also be the image library functions which happen after a file is uploaded (creating several versions of the image file, for thumbnail, medium, and etc – and crunching the file, too), which require certain PHP settings to be enabled / working.

It sounds like a file permission issue, so try this first.

Using your FTP software, set file permissions on wp-content/uploads (and all DIRECTORIES) below this to 755. Then try an upload.

    What happens?

I use WordPress via Safari rather than through an FTP which I assume is Filezilla or similar ??
Is there a way to change the setting as you describe in the dashboard section or will I need to download an FTP ??

It seemed strange that it had been working fine up until the update.

    Thanks for your help

Have done what you suggested the permissions on the Uploads folder was already set to 755.
    Thanks

    Anyone have any ideas ???????????

I assume you are using your own server. Like you, I cannot upload a single image to a post, but I can do it using “add from server” plugin.

4.4.2 Update today still same problem.. I have checked and file permissions are set to 755 still have the same error.– An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later. The pictures then show in my media library as a grey icon.

Anyone have any ideas as I have a website I cannot upload pictures to.

Subscribed, I have the same problem.

Completely in trouble here too, my complete site plugins which use permissions some way or another are completely blocked, no featured images, no add media etc etc etc. This is a MAJOR bug. I have now 8 sites which I can no longer admin correctly, on 8 different servers… my clients are furious.
