Unable to upload photographs; error message every time (7 posts)

Everything was working fine until a few days ago. Now, whenever I try to upload an image, I get an error message like this:

    Error [photograph name]
An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.

I can see the individual image file name when I look in my Media Library. And when I click on the file name I can see my photograph clear as day. But I see this message when I click on EDIT IMAGE:

Image data does not exist. Please re-upload the image.

(I've also been unsuccessful in trying to create a simple gallery).

Thanks in advance for any guidance anyone can offer.

Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

Um...not 100% certain what you mean, Esmi. I'm using the Twenty Eleven theme.

Do you want me to deactivate the few plugins I'm using (I haven't added many) and try to upload a photograph?

I'm not positive, but fairly certain the problem started after I did the recent WordPress upgrade to 3.7.1. I had no issue uploading pics before that.

Did you fix this issue? I'm having the same issue, should I upgrade to 3.9.1 I'm using Customizr.

You might want to check your file permissions for uploads folder. If that doesn't work, try disabling your plugins like @esmi suggested.

Nope, never got the issue fixed. But I'm going to check my file permissions when I get a chance. I'd love to know if you manage to solve your problem and how!
