Hi, I am using genesis ‘sample’ child theme.

As an admin, I am able to upload media and it embeds nicely into the post. However, when other users try to they are not allowed to.

By default, I have made all new sign ups as ‘Authors’.

Via ‘USP’ front end form. User clicks ‘Add Media’ button,
    1) media library opens,
    2) user clicks upload files and selects from their pc/mobile,
    3) user selects 1 photo which is approx 3 mb and uploading fails,
    4) Error message ‘You don’t have permission to attach files to this post’.
    5) User tries again with smaller sized image, approx 200 kb, same result. User does not have permission.

I kind of know this is not really a USP error but I really hope for help to correct whatever error I may have unknowingly done.

    This is the site
    themetest.vacahost.info

Once again, I really need help. Thank you

    Regards,

    Hi shanehidir,

Can you try the same experiment with the user as an Editor? Just to help troubleshoot if it’s a role/capabilities issue with WordPress.

Hey Jeff, I just tried it out. I changed a test user to editor. Then logged out of admin and in as the test user (now editor role), and it worked.

Thanks for the fault finding tip. So what would you suggest next? I can’t let all future users who wish to contribute be editors by default. That would mean that they have editing rights over all posts by everyone else.

I’m so grateful that you replied, and I’m really looking forward to your suggestion.

Hmm.. then it sounds like something may have changed with WordPress, as previous tests revealed that user roles of Author, Editor, or Admin were able to upload/add media.

Can you log in as Author and see if you can add media in the Admin Area (via the Media uploads tool)?

Hey Jeff, I’m also using a plug-in to hide the dashboard from registered users.

So I deactivated that plug-in, changed the test user back to author, then logged in as test user (author role) and just for kicks attempted front end uploads, it failed as before. So since dashboard has now been made accessible, I tried uploading via backend as you suggested and it worked :).

Both via default built in multi file media uploader as well as browser uploader (firefox mobile app).

    What do you suggest next?

I just tested Author role on default WP install and the Add Media button worked normally (i.e., I was able to add media to the post without any error).

I would recommend troubleshooting your plugins and theme to see if anything is interfering with normal functionality. And also make sure the USP shortcode is included on a Post or Page that is published (i.e., not draft or pending).

Hi Jeff, will do. Thanks for all your advice. Sincerely appreciate it.
