• I can´t update my WP Theme on localhost using xampp. I did update Woocommerce and all plugins without trouble, but after that, I keep getting a message: “Your theme (The Retailer Child) contains outdated copies of some WooCommerce template files. These files may need updating to ensure they are compatible with the current version of WooCommerce. You can see which files are affected from the system status page. If in doubt, check with the author of the theme.” There is no way I can find to update the theme to the new version and I’m getting really desperate. Every time I try to update the theme WP goes under maintenance mode for ages until I refresh.

  • Can you just download a copy of the updated theme and copy that across into your localhost’s wp-content/themes folder? Have you contacted the theme’s developer to ask them about this issue?

Hi esmi! Thanks for answering. I can´t download a copy of the theme because it is a premium theme. On the other hand, I will like to fix the problem in case another update comes in. I contacted the theme developer and he says the problem is on the connection between the server and WP. What I don´t understand is the fact that I CAN update WP, Woo and plugins, but NOT the theme. If I don´t update the main theme I get some of the Woocommerce files outdated error message. Some people say that I need to set the theme as a user on xampp with privileges, others say that it is a matter of memory (now I have it at memory_limit:128m), and some others suggest to set all privileges to 777, which I don´t think is a good idea. The curious thing is that I can update everything except for the main theme. Some of the error messages I’ve got are “briefly under maintenance”/ “Update failed: Internal Server Error”/”Update Failed: <!DOCTYPE html> Maintenance Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute”.
    Hope you can help! Regards

Since it appears that WooCommerce is the cause of your update problem, perhaps you should deactivate WooCommerce and then try to update the theme.

Since I don’t (and won’t) use WooCommerce, I have no idea whether deactivating it will cause a loss of data. It’s bad plugin design to allow that to happen, but there are enormously popular plugins which do this (I’m looking at you, Jetpack!). You should ask the WooCommerce folks whether it is safe to temporarily deactivate the plugin for debugging purposes, and then reactivate it a short time later.

Thanks DionDesigns! I tried this method without results. I deactivated Woo and it didn’t work, so I tried deactivating all plugins and same thing: unable to update the theme. The theme comes with a plugin that is a toolkit for the same theme. I can update that plugin without any trouble. The plugin has the same user as the theme, so it should not be a problem to update the main theme, but the fact is that there is a problem updating the main theme.
