• I updated (auto) from WordPress 3.6 to version 3.6.1. After updating to v3.6.1 I tried updating plugins with those that are available for update. But WordPress loads the Update plugins page but never finishes the update process.

The .maintenance file is created each time. I deleted it a number of times and tried again but nothing helped. I also tried updating plugins individually but no go.

Also tried to update theme which is also not working. I did’nt make any changes after updating to WordPress 3.6.1. I don’t want to install/update plugins manually as I may loose all the settings of each individual plugin.

Is there anyone facing such issue?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

I deactivated all the plugins now. After deactivating all plugins I hit the update all plugins. Now after a while an Error 404 page appeared (with the current theme) and is appearing within an iframe on the Update Plugins page.

I guess the WordPress is not switching to Maintenance Mode as after hitting Update Plugins an Error 404 page of website in a iframe on Update Plugins page after about 5 minutes.

Try checking your site’s error logs for messages. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

There are the errors I found in error logs witht the host.

I am having the same problem – can’t get plug-ins to function properly and google analytics stopped detecting my site. I have spent hours with Blue Host – they went through the error log – repaired what little there was to repair and plugin and google still doesn’t work. He said it was probably an issue related to updating to WP 3.6.1 – what to do??? http://www.thedoctorweighsin.com

BTW, I also auto-updated to the new version. I have since deleted the auto-update feature and it made one error message go away, but the plug in still doesn’t work. is there a bug in this version of WP?

@psalber – could you start your own thread – it’s quite difficult to have more than one person in the same thread – you can do so here:
