Support » Fixing WordPress » Unable to permanently delete posts, pages etc.

  • Hi guys

    I’ve got an issue with permanently deleting things (remove trash like pages, posts etc.) When I select the permanently delete option in the trash, it would say the item (let’s say pages) is delete but the item is still in the list. No matter how many times I try to delete, it says it’s deleted it but the item persists.

    I’ve previously had an issue with installing plugins, it was an access error which I resolved by granting folder access. Would it be something related to this? WordPress should be able to delete though.

    Another clue is, another plugin install issue where it couldn’t find the plugins directory, the following bit of code in the config resolved it though (I got this from another thread):

    if(is_admin()) {
    	add_filter('filesystem_method', create_function('$a', 'return "direct";' ));
    	define( 'FS_CHMOD_DIR', 0751 );

    Any insights into the cause would be much appreciated.

  • I am unable to help but I also have the same problem. When I first typed in some page names (as an experiment to see how they looked), I chose four or five page headers which I wasn’t planning on using. But then I deleted them when I had made a list of pages I wanted and I was told they had been deleted. The problem is, they are still there and despite trying to rename my pages I can’t and I am stuck with these page headers. I have deactivated themes, uninstalled them, uploaded a new theme – you name it – and I am still stuck with the old and very unwanted page headers.

    Can anyone help please?

    Thanks in advance,

    All good. I worked it out. I had for some reason saved them in a menu and as a result I deleted the menu and the pages disappeared as well! Hooray! So chuffed I worked it out and sorry if it was something really obvious but to me, a total novice, that was quite an achievement!
